Diabetes ... Threatening dogs - cats, not people.

Not only is the boss, only to be sick with the disease hit "diabetes", but the dog I did have a tendency to this disease is increasing, which, although it is still a shortage of medical devices and drugs for. four-legged patients. But it's also fortunate that the equipment to treat diabetes in pets (something) can borrow the tools used together. The rate of death by disease, the decrease in the number of patients increases.

The survey found that dogs with diabetes increased from 19% to 67%, while the death rate from diabetes. The rapid decline of 37% to only 5% of the dogs at risk of diabetes, most species in nature pool Needle, Alaska Malaga New South, Big Incheon Harbor, and in Nature. Schnauzer.

Of diabetes in the cat. Found to be similar to people. The first category is divided into different types of cases, the pancreas can not produce the hormone insulin, the second type is the hormone the body produces enough insulin. The cells in the body can not get it. The cat can have two types of diabetes is similar to humans.

For the treatment of diabetes in the animals. Previously, the use of human drugs on animals, then the result is a veterinarian is the device used to treat diabetes, the human animal is fed with a glucose monitoring. This will measure your blood sugar level is higher or not. Because people with diabetes have high blood sugar levels. And have difficulty controlling their blood sugar levels.Because the body can not produce enough insulin, a hormone.Although diet and insulin injections can help. However, blood glucose levels must be monitored closely. Little dog, too. They need to track blood sugar levels closely. That is why the veterinarian to use these tools with a little dog and he did it.

But before a veterinarian to treat your dog or cat with diabetes have it. The dog was taken for routine blood tests at the clinic and use the data for the hormone insulin. In order to be able to dispense it. However. Atmosphere of the clinic, it may make the pet feel stressed. This stress will affect the measurement of the hormone insulin. The results are often not as much a reality.

However, at present. Veterinarians used to monitor glucose levels in real time. This powerful and accurate than the very old. It can show us the level of sugar in the blood of animals by real-time.Or agree to changes in blood sugar levels that result from the way the owner of the pet food or exercise. It can be treated with precision. And the owners know that using drugs to pet food and exercise. Affects the increase or decrease in the levels of insulin by the child, it is a factor that affects diabetes in pets as well.

For those who raise rabbits. Do not forget to notice the symptoms of me a little time that he was threatening skin disease or not. To treat the pain immediately. And live with us to take it.

What should and should not do. Raising rabbits.

What should be done in raising rabbits.
             1. And observed regularly. If the disorder is little need to take to theveterinarian.

             2. To touch gently.

             3. How to clean the cage regularly.

3. Do not pet rabbit fashion. I want to be fed to pets.

4. Do not bathe too often a rabbit about 3-4 months / time is enough.

5. If the house has a cat. The bathroom should not smell of cats that come with the rabbit. Should be used instead of sawdust or newspaper.

Recommendation to raise a rabbit properly.

For beginners who want to raise rabbits. I do not think that it is fed to small animalsonly. Before the party should consider several things consist. The rabbit needs to take care of it properly. The responsibility for the animals is important. If he is out of this world to be premature. Or bored and leave Tiggkwgag nonchalant. The supplement is not a sin, but to make the party more ....

"In addition to dogs and cats. Rabbits are popular pets is that people do notice is thatthe rabbit has a growing number of people every day. And it feels good to see more and more people turn to pet rabbits. In fact, the nature of the beast does not stand forthis kind of life. The average life expectancy is about 50-10 years of raising rabbits, an animal that is not difficult. Raised as a pet topic. Just be aware that he needs food and the environment is appropriate. "

"The nature of the rabbit is a mammal Breed easily and quickly. One out of about 60-10 Lokcrak If you want to raise for breeding should be sterilized. Otherwise, itwill have a lot in one year. Hares are polite, quiet like a swarm diet is mostly grass andgrain.

Farming should be given fresh grass and hay is the staple food. Added a little fruit and vegetables. The grass is very beneficial to rabbits. That affect health and excretion. In your teeth and prevent dental problems and also in the rainy season and winter is cold and pneumonia, and rabbits. Problem skin. The damp and mold. The summer will have a Heat Stroke or heat shock, etc. Therefore, special attention and care he is a different season. "

I also said that a veterinarian. Who are generally thought that the rabbit is an animal that is dead simple. I was just dead. The truth is not reached. Whichever is greater. I have several rabbits that were treated for his wounds and hurts more. But it's no shock to death. It depends on the situation. And the nature of the climate at that point because most of the rabbits will be shocked if very hot, but that does not mean to shock or scare to death to be the rabbit every time.

"It is carrying a bow tie should not be done. The ear has a lot of blood. If the arteries carrying the ear of the ear is bruised and lacerated right hand to catch a movie at the bottom of the neck and a spoon to help support the weight. The parties do not place hot or wet wind blows it is not ventilated. Clean cages and feeding. The water is always clean. It's important to let the rabbit have been playing some exercise. I gave him a lift and brighten the mood and not too lonely. "

In addition, pet rabbits should be careful with the disease. It is a disease of animals and people infected with the disease in animals and not people. For most common diseases in rabbits. With diarrhea from dysentery infection. This causes red itchy ears. Or distorted. Fungal diseases of the teeth of the rabbits, etc., for people can be allergic. I like the pet bunny rabbit fur from dogs and cats should be taken in conjunction with the MMA scene anti-venom injection, he read me well. The vaccine can be done on rabbits aged 4 months or more if the house is in close contact with children and pets on a regular basis.

The rabbit has a wide range of varieties to choose from. To make it a pet rabbit.Should understand the nature of them. Study the life and character and habits of the species that is. By getting to know them before you get it home. The rabbit should be purchased at the age of about one-half months or more. It was weaned and start eating normally now. Reduces the problem of pet rabbits are too young to die. Rabbit is a good way to clear my eyes, no nose, no cloudy eyes that look clean, not sloppy butt. None of the wounds. Flakes or hair loss, leg symptoms, etc., etc. Japan.

It should be noted that raising rabbits is that symptoms occur or not. For example, not drinking, not eating, hair loss is a wound that penetrated Kigmok my eyes. Some may be okay in the ears. The wax includes a plate. The rabbit is very itchy. In the case of rabbits, a Dafa. There is pus inside the eye. Or weeping.Conjunctivitis caused by stabbing the eye tear ducts carry tons of dust, smoke, etc., do not let them take it to a veterinarian for treatment immediately detect an abnormal situation.

"Rabbit as a pet to tame. Innocent and cute. Sadly, most people in the wild because they are being chased. Or animal experiments in laboratories. The rabbit could become a mascot of the human animal without knowing it. If I should take care to feed him the best. Make him happy. In a way that is correct. He will be with us for long ".

Types of Harnesses for Dogs

Dog harnesses are important, as they are a good way to ensure that you have something sturdy to attach your dog's leash to. They are better than collars because they tend to be more comfortable. There are many kinds of harnesses, and each kind has its own uses and advantages. It is vital to know what the features of each harness are in order to allow you to make an informed choice when looking for a collar for your dog.

- The Step-In Harness is one of the most common types of harness, and it is popular simply because it is so varied. The straps easily attach on the dog's back, and the two loops around his leg ensure that the dog is comfortable. They are easy to use, easy to adjust, and very comfortable for your dog, and there are many sizes, shapes, and patterns used to create these simple harnesses.

- The Roman or Standard Harness is the harness most people have used in the past, but the style of these harnesses has been simplified to ensure that dog owners can easily use them. The harness goes over the head of the dog, loops around one leg, and easily buckled with a simple strap. This old classic is one of the best designs used to harness dogs around the world, and thanks to the simplified design you can easily harness your dog with little difficulty.

- Vest Harnesses are very popular among those who like to dress up their dog, and these are excellent for use thanks to the fact that they don't put pressure on the neck of your dog. The ring is far away from your dog's throat, and the harness is placed on your dog in the same way a vest is to harness your dog in style.

- All in One Harness and Leash sets are perfect for those who want both a harness and leash, and these sets make it easy to harness and leash your dog. They are easy to put on your dog, and are very comfortable for him to wear. The leash attaches to the ring on the dog's back, and they are perfect for anyone who likes to take their dog out for walks.

- The Easy On Harness is designed to be as easy as possible to strap on your dog, and the Velcro or hook and loop fasteners make it easy to strap your dog in. Simply place the harness on your dog's back, and use the fasteners to tighten the harness around your dog's belly to ensure that he is comfortable in his harness. These are great to use on dog's that are hard to harness or who refuse to stand still or step into a harness.

- There are many unique harnesses for your dog, such as the shoulder collar that goes around your dog's legs instead of his neck. The EzDog Harness has a shape that conforms to your dog's features, and the Back Pack harness has a small pouch that allows you to place your dog's poop bag inside his harness.

Dog Mobility Problems And How To Treat Them

Like us, dogs can suffer from back and joint pain that may affect their mobility. Often mobility problems are caused by the cartilage wearing down in the joints. As a dog gets older their cartilage degenerates. When there is less cartilage cushioning the bones joints become swollen and painful. Larger dog breeds like Rottweilers and Labradors are often prone to aliments such as hip dysplasia and arthritis. Accidents or excess weight can also lead to chronic pain and joint problems. Whatever the cause proper treatment can reduce pain and give your canine friend a better quality of life.

The problem is, since our pets can't talk to us to let us know they are hurting, sometimes it is harder to recognize that the animal is in pain. Understanding your dog's normal behavior patterns can help you recognize the signs that your pet may be having trouble. Difficulties getting up from a laying position, climbing stairs or jumping onto a bed or into a car can all be signs that your dog is suffering from pain or discomfort. Often a dog will also limp, walk slower and may not be as playful as they used to be.

Treatment for joint and mobility pain in a pet is very similar to treatment of humans suffering from a similar problem. Maintaining a healthy weight and eating a diet rich in essential vitamins and minerals is important for healing and overall strength. A veterinarian may also prescribe anti-inflammatory medications to relieve pain. Regular exercise is also important, and when taking your pet out for a walk, use a harness rather than a collar to avoid additional neck and back injury.

Giving your dog a glucosamine supplement can be an effective treatment for joint pain in arthritic dogs. As your pet gets older his body may lose the ability to create glucosamine which can lead to arthritis. A supplement can restore his damaged joints and also acts as an anti-inflammatory. As a preventative measure glucosamine can also be given to elderly pets that may be at risk for developing arthritis.

There are very few side effects associated with glucosamine for dogs supplements. Occasionally a dog may suffer from vomiting or diarrhea, however administering the supplement with food can alleviate these problems. Glucosamine in liquid form can be poured over food or onto a favorite treat and most dogs don't mind the taste. Before giving your pet any dietary supplements it is important to talk with your dog's veterinarian and discuss all treatment options.

Understanding the Ingredients in Dog Food

Once people learn about the ingredients found in dog food brands they switch to feeding their dogs a healthy, home-made nutritious diet instead. They have seen the light and understand that their pets can live much longer and healthier lives when their diet is full of quality, fresh food. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to understand why this is so.

Dog food is made up of animal byproducts. When animals such as cattle, pigs and chickens are slaughtered, humans get the best bits - the lean muscle which has to be trimmed away. Typically about fifty percent of an animal carcass remains, and these leftovers -- including heads, feet, bones, blood, intestines, lungs, spleens, livers, ligaments, fat trimmings, unborn babies, and other parts -- are used in pet food, animal feed, fertilizer, industrial lubricants, soap, rubber, and other products.

The nutritional and dietary quality of byproducts is not a constant; each batch can be different. It wasn't that long ago that roadkill was being used as part of dog food. Although there are still no laws or regulations against the practice, using roadkill in dog food is uncommon today. However, animals labeled as "4D," which means dead, dying, diseased, or disabled are still legitimate ingredients in dog food, even though they were only recently banned for human consumption.

The picture is just as grim for grains and vegetable dog food ingredients; they are no better than the meats and some are also labeled as unfit for human consumption. The amount of plant products used has risen dramatically in recent years, and now replaces a large proportion of the meat that was common in the earliest commercial dog foods. As you can imagine, this change has created severe nutritional deficiencies in our pets.

Most dry dog foods contain huge amounts of cereal grain or starchy vegetables in order to give the food texture. These high-carbohydrate plant products also provide a cheap source of energy in the form of calories.

Gluten meals, which are high-protein extracts from which most of the carbohydrates have been extracted, are often used to boost protein percentages instead of expensive animal-source ingredients. Corn gluten meal is the most common plant product for this purpose. Wheat gluten is also used to create shapes in the food, such as cuts, bites, chunks, shreds, flakes, and slices, and as a thickener for gravy. In most cases, dog foods containing vegetable proteins are amongst the poorest quality fare.

Even the low-carb dog food, where grains are substituted with potatoes, green peas, and other starchy vegetables, offer no particular advantage to pets - except for dogs that are allergic to grains. The big problem with dry low-carb diets is that they tend to be very high in fat, and this can result in weight gain.

The lack of nutrients is not the only problem as dog food is almost drowning in additives and preservatives. Manufacturers need to ensure that dry foods have a long shelf-life (typically 12 months) to remain edible through shipping and storage.

Therefore, fats sprayed on foodstuffs to make them more appealing to dogs are preserved with either synthetic or natural preservatives. This is hardly the way to give an animal the rich, healthy and nutritious diet that it needs. Consequently, it is plain to see why so many pet owners are exploring their kitchens to feed their dogs delicious and life-enhancing home-made fresh meals.

Pet Hedgehogs - Buying Guide

When buying pet hedgehogs, there are some important things to look for to make sure you have a healthy animal.

Things to check:

Its Nose - your hedgehog's nose should be black and wet, kind of like a dogs. It should not be running and it should not be making "rasping" noises as this may be a sign of a respiratory infection.

Eyes - should be black and ball like, the eyes should be clear and black, patchy eyes and or cloudy eyes are signs of genetic defects and any hedgehog with these should not be bought. Other signs that the hedgehog is not healthy include, runny, closed, sunken or droopy eyes and any signs of conjunctivitis.

Ears - Ears should be nice and clean. Your new pet may have little nibbles or chunks out of their ears but this is fine as long as they are healed (sometimes a hoglets they can get a little too close to their siblings and be bitten)

Weight - They should be "plump" if you look at their belly there should be a little padding and no loose droopy skin, it should also have fine hair and you should see its little chubby pink belly. Which if it will let you touch it will feel soft and a fluffy.

Legs - Watch your hog have a little walk around, this one is mostly common sense, make sure it is walking as it should, no wobbles or limps or anything like that.

Responses - A healthy animal will be very inquisitive and interested in anything in its proximity, if you put your hand in front of it, that should be enough to get it around you sniffing and maybe having a little lick. It should also start to "huffle" if it gets stressed, so try picking it up and seeing if it balls up and huffles, this is completely normal for pet hedgehogs.

Quills - You want to make sure that there are no missing quills or bald patches, often there are broken quills but this is normal as they can be quite rough and tumble, but they are very resilient animals and can handle a broken quill or two.

Skin - some hedgehogs have little mites at the base of their quills, if they do they will have small scabs at the base, these are easy to see and identify. Never buy a hedgehog with mites.

Testing a pet hedgehogs temperament - there are a few simple things you can do to test that your pet hedgehogs temperament is good and that you get a sociable animal, because nobody wants a moody or shy pet.

Pick up your hog and it should curl into a ball and "huffle", turn it onto it's back and see how long it takes to uncurl, a social hog will do this in about 30 seconds, if it does not ball at all then you have an extremely sociable little pet.

Stroke your hedgehog - Will it let you stroke its quills or its belly? What about its feet? Most hogs will not let you do this without curling up, however if it does then that's a fantastic sign.

Put it on the floor- When you put it down, a sociable hog will uncurl and start sniffing things almost immediately. Some will curl up and huffle and for a bit but if they do this for around 2 minutes or more then that is a sign that your hog may not be the most sociable.

Identifying and Treating the Most Common Dog Eye Problems

Dog eye health is a serious concern for dog owners, dog eye problems can range from somewhat irritating to downright dangerous. Some common eye problems that you may or may not have heard of include pink eye, red eye, in-grown eyelids, corneal ulcers, cataracts, and general irritation and injury. This guide provides you with information about common dog eye problems, the signs and possible treatments. This guide is a great starting point and reference piece, but remember it is always a good idea to seek the advice of your veterinarian for any dog health issues.

A dog will usually make it quite clear if he is suffering from a eye health problem. He may squint or turn away from bright light, or he might blink excessively or rub his eyes with his paws or by rubbing his face on the ground. You should also check for bulging eyes, redness, cloudiness or discharge.

The following steps may help prevent dog eye health problems:

1. A healthy diet, including supplements is the first place to start. There are many foods that are beneficial for dog eye health, including leafy green vegetables, blue or purple berries, carrots, sesame and sunflower seeds. Supplements that you may want to try include Zinc, Vitamins A, D and C, and Bioflavonoids, Pycnogenols,(remember to speak to your dog's veterinarian before giving your dog any foods or supplements).

2. Be sure to clean away the discharge, or "gunk" away from your dog's eyes. Using a warm, wet washcloth or clean cotton ball wipe outward away from the inside corner of the eyes. Ideally you should clean your dog's eyes daily to avoid buildup.

3. If the fur around your dog's eyes gets too long it can actually scratch the surface of his eyes which could lead to irritation or infection. Fur around the eyes can also allow the eye gunk to build up making it more difficult to clean. Keep the fur around his eyes trimmed to avoid these problems. If you trim the fur yourself, always point the scissors downward, away from your dogs eyes.

4. Don't tell your dog I told you this - but don't let her stick her head out the car window while you're driving. I know, this is one of a dog's favorite things, but it can be quite dangerous. The wind can irritate a dog's eyes, or debris could blow into his eyes and cause injury. A safer alternative is to open your windows just enough to allow your dog to enjoy the wind and the scents, but not get her head out.

5. Avoid grooming products that might be irritating to your dog's eyes. It can be very helpful to search for dog shampoo reviews when shopping for shampoo. You can find out what other dog owners think about a product before you buy it. You also want to look for natural, organic dog shampoos to make sure you are using the healthiest ingredients possible for your dog.

6. Another product to protect your dog's eyes is dog goggles, or "doggles". If you just can't bear the thought of not letting your dog stick her head out the window, dog goggles are an option to protect her eyes. Dog goggles are nice to have on hand in case your dog does sustain an injury or need eye surgery, they can protect his eyes from further irritation and shield them from bright lights while his eyes are extra sensitive.

Even if you clean your eyes every day, use only natural, organic dog shampoo and feed her the healthiest diet possible, she may still have eye health issues.

The following list is some possible treatment options.

1. Calling your vet should be your first step. Based on your observations, your vet can let you know if you need to bring your dog in for an office visit.

2. Look at your dog's eyes, if you can see a foreign object floating around, try to wash it out with artificial tears or a saline solution.

3. Don't ever try to pull anything out of your dog's eye yourself. If you see something stuck or lodged in your dog's eye call your veterinarian right away. Once something is removed from the eye it becomes susceptible to infection, so you want to be at the vet who will be able to treat it properly. Removing the object yourself can also cause further damage.

4. A damp warm compress may be helpful to soothe inflamed, sore eyes. Apply the compress to each eye for five minutes. You can alternate eyes if your dog doesn't like having both eyes covered at the same time. Be sure to use a clean cloth every time.

5. You may not be aware of this, but fleas and ticks can cause eye health problems for your dog. They can cause conjunctivitis also known as pink eye. Keeping your dog protected from fleas and ticks can keep their eyes healthy.

6. If your dog does have an eye irritation or injury, you will need to protect her by wearing an Elizabethan collar, commonly known as a cone. Otherwise your dog may continue to rub or scratch her eye causing further injury and irritation.

Taking care of your dog's eye health is very important. By following these prevention guidelines and taking the necessary steps if your dog does have an eye health issue, you can ensure your dog a long, happy life of playing fetch and chasing rabbits!

Picking the Best Cat Food

It's a bit of a maze out there - how do you set about picking the best cat food? Supermarkets have shelves piled high with attractive packets proclaiming health and longevity. Veterinarians have floor to ceiling pet food, claiming the same, but saying supermarket food is bad. Get on the internet and explore the forums and you get a different story again. Many recalls are made almost daily.

How can you possibly know what the best cat food is, with all this conflicting information? Feeding your cat right is essential for their health and well being. The wrong diet can wreak havoc on their health, costing you a lot in veterinary fees.

In the last few decades, the health of cats has declined rapidly. It's not uncommon for cats to get a serious illness when only a few years old. Stomatitis, once unknown in cats, is now common. Diabetes is rapidly becoming common. Serious degenerative diseases, such as cancers and leukaemia, were exceptionally rare not that long ago, but now too common for comfort.

Something is seriously amiss. Somehow, humans have made some wrong choices in the not too distant past. Here are some tips that may help you make the right decision for your cat.

Nature never gets things wrong. It's man's interpretation of nature that is often wrong. Cats evolved over a very long time on a particular diet. Their whole physiology has adapted to this perfectly. Go back to a quality, natural diet which is based on their evolution.

Domestic cats often have their food left out all day. Being hunters, this is contrary to their evolution. Not every hunt is successful, by any means. So cats are more adapted to going without food, rather than grazing, a predominantly herbivore trait. Stomach problems are common in cats who graze.

Dried food is said to be good for their teeth. However, gum disease is common in cats on dried food, so this advice falls short of the reality.

Dried food can easily make a cat dehydrated. Coming from semi arid environments, cats rely on their food for their moisture. Often they won't drink enough water to make up the shortfall.

There are no real laws than govern the quality of commercial pet food anywhere in the world. The production of most of it is nothing short of shocking.
Picking the best cat food to ensure your cat has vibrant health and longevity means considering a quality, natural, species specific diet. You may need to consider making it yourself.

Common Surgical Procedures for Cats

Cats have been worshiped as gods by the Egyptians, since these were once believed to be the beloved animals of the Egyptian goddess, Bastet. Nowadays, this simple fact does not exclude them from the different surgical procedures available in a veterinarians clinic. As expected, neutering, spaying, and declawing are the top 3 most common surgical procedures for cats. Based on annual statistics, the population growth of cats is 1.9% every year, while the dog population grows by only 1.2% every year! Do the math, and it shows that cats reproduce more than dogs - one cat can give birth to as many as 14 cats in a single pregnancy!

Neutering is a surgical procedure limited to male cats. Aside from preventing a male cat from seeking a mate and adding another litter to the cat population, neutering stops the male from urinating all over the house in an attempt to mark its territory. Neutering also lessens aggressive behaviors which allows its owners to fondle and cuddle it as much as they want.

However, neutering also comes with several drawbacks. Neutered cats are more prone to becoming obese, developing hair loss/alopecia, and developing osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is linked to bone cancer, and this develops as a cancerous neoplasm. Other health complications associated with neutering include prostate cancer and the formation of stones in the urinary bladder.

Spaying, on the other hand, is a surgical procedure for female cats. Compared to male cats, females are able to experience heat many times during spring and become desperate enough to escape the house just to find a mate. Owners know when their cat is in heat when it vocalizes a lot, stands with its behind raised, and urinating out of its kitty litter. One of the advantages of spaying a cat is that it removes the risk of it developing breast cancer or mammary tumors.

Like neutering, spaying increases the chances of forming urinary tract infection, obesity, and even hemangiosarcoma. Hemangiosarcoma is a condition where a tumor forms and is continuously filled with blood. Once the tumor ruptures, it can cause the molly to bleed to death. Hypothyroidism and urinary incontinence are also other possible side effects a cat can develop after being spayed.

Finally, declawing is a surgical procedure usually conducted on cats that exhibit destructive behavior by clawing at furniture, curtains, and other things around the house. A declawing procedure is usually done as a last resort, after attempts to train the cat to use a scratching post or even trimming its nails have failed.

Cat Health Problems and Remedies

For all of us cat lovers out there, we all worry about our cats. We should and trying to find good information is sometimes an issue. I know of some common cat health problems and would like to share with you some of them and some remedies for them. This is for cat lovers that would like to find out about hairballs, fleas, constipation, diarrhea and worms.

Hairballs in cats is a normal thing if they get them once and awhile. If your cat has quite a bit of hairballs then maybe it could be from them shedding too much. Do you find them having lots of hairballs in the spring, the shedding season? If so there is an easy remedy for this from just combing them. Now if you find that combing doesn't help then ask yourself do you have other cats or does your cat hang around other cats? If so your cat could be grooming the other cats and getting hairballs from them. Then of course there is other problems such as diets, or digestion problems.

Now to fleas, you don't need to worry if your cat has a few but I would still recommend treating your cat. If you do not treat your cat it could let your cat become infested with them. If your cat does get infested with fleas, it is best to treat them as quickly as possible. In not treating a flea infestation you could let your cat become dehydrated from the fleas feeding off your cat. Treating your cat is simple with flea treatments, and to help prevent fleas you can get a flea collar.

Constipation is not nice to go through and sometime can be painful, as so with our cats. Even simple hairballs can let our cats be constipated, so remember to comb them regularly. If you are helping your cat from having less or no hairballs then perhaps you changed their diet? There are simple remedies for constipation that you can get. If you see bloody stool however then please take you cat to a vet immediately.

Now diarrhea is not a pleasant thing to think about, but if it last longer than 24 hours, you can help ease it. Diarrhea is a safety mechanism, if your cat ingest something it doesn't like, then it passes through the stomach with little water/liquid absorption which in turn becomes diarrhea. That is why I suggest to give it 24 hours as that is usually the time it takes to let it pass as long as it doesn't intake any more of what it doesn't like.

Worms in cats, there is four types I have found out to be fairly common for cats, roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm and heartworms. What I found out to be somewhat disturbing is that some of these worms, us the owners can get. So treating them is what we would like to get done right away. Not only us but our other pets like dogs can also get them. There are some great dewormers out there to help you get them treated. But it is sometimes best to take your cat to the vet as you may need them to be surgically removed.

Caring for Your Discus Fish

Discus are a popular tropical fish species to keep in the home. If looked after they can live for quite a few years but on average it is four to five. There are some key tips for keeping Discus Fish in good condition. Some of these are typical to all tropical fish and some are specific to Discus.
As they are quite a large fish, they need a lot of space and a large tropical fish tank should be used. The size will vary depending on how many fish you intend to keep but a tank of at least 40 gallons should be used.
The temperature needs to be kept at a fairly constant and Discus like it quite hot (about 82-86 deg Fahrenheit). To maintain this temperature, the tank should be kept away from sources of cold and heat such as draughts from windows and external doors, direct sunlight and fires or radiators. A reliable aquarium heater should be used, and if you have a large tank it is worth having more than one to distribute the heat evenly and as a back up.
The first time you fill the fish tank it should be left for two to three weeks for the filters to settle in and the water should be treated with a chemical agent. Any fish tank equipment, ornaments or gravels need to be thoroughly washed a few times, to remove dirt and bacteria, before placing them in the water.
Discus Fish will eat a variety of foods including flakes and frozen shrimp.
The tropical fish tank should be cleaned regularly and as Discus are a large fish, they produce a lot of waste so the water should be changed, or at least partially changed on a weekly basis to ensure a healthy environment. It is also a good idea to use a large and efficient filter to as Discus need very clean water.
Discus are a communal, and generally non-aggressive species and several can be kept together. Ideally if you intend to add any new fish to the aquarium, they should be kept in a separate quarantine tank for a few days and observed for any signs of disease or other issues before introducing them into the main fish tank with other fish. Other tropical fish can be kept in the same tank but it is best to avoid other large fish or fast swimmers. Bottom feeding catfish make an ideal tank companion.

Safety Tips When Taking Your Pet on Vacation With You

You do not want to leave your pet home alone every time you go on vacation, do you? If not, then you will need to be careful when bringing him along. Here are a few safety tips when taking your pet on vacation with you.
It is very important that your pet has some sort of identification on him. This usually takes the form of a permanent collar. The collar should have all of your contact information on it like your home number, address, and name. This will help someone find you in case your pet gets lost.
One of the main things you need to be concerned with is how you are traveling with your pet. If you are traveling by car, you may need to purchase a harness or special seat belt for your dog. You do not want him to be loose in the car because he may jump on your lap or even obstruct your view of traffic.
It is also best that you never let your dog travel with his head out the window. Things like small pieces of rocks and bugs can get into his eye and cause damage. He may even jump out of the car for some reason. If you do not want to get a harness or special seat belt, then you will need a kennel to contain your dog.
Sometimes it is necessary to take your pet by airplane. You should be aware that some airlines will not allow pets to board. That is why you need to check with different airlines well in advance of your trip. If the airline does accept your pet, you will need to stow him in an appropriate kennel for the trip.
No matter how your pet is traveling with you, it is very important that you provide him with plenty of water for the trip. If you are traveling by car, then you need to plan many rest stops along the way so that your dog can go to the bathroom.
As with airlines, some hotels do not accept pets to stay there. So, you will need to check into appropriate accommodates for your pet. One option is to use a boarding facility in the area where you will be staying.
Regardless where you are traveling with your pet, it is best that you take him to the vet beforehand. You want to make sure that he is not sick before the trip actually starts. It is also important that all of his vaccinations be current.
When packing for your trip, you need to make sure that you bring necessary equipment for your pet. Most locations like beaches and camping grounds require that you keep your dog on a leash. You should also want to do this to ensure that he does not run away from you.

Are All Pet Foods The Same?

Introducing a pup to a new home and giving it the life it deserves is fun and exciting for a family. Nevertheless, numerous families stress about buying the proper food for their new pup so they are able to grow healthy and live a long life. There is so much hype currently surrounding the choice of a puppy food that it could be confusing to know which to purchase, and it appears like such a huge decision it can be scary as well. It's important to know what all of the hype means, what the truth of the matter is and how you are able to make your choice.

http://amcny.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/cat-dog-eating.jpg

The Hype
Processed and manufactured puppy foods have recently fallen under attack for their use of artificial ingredients and chemicals that are not natural products. This will be the same attack that numerous junk food companies for humans have fallen prey to, and can be frightening to a puppy owner. According to many people, the brand on the food isn't important because they are all of the same - full of artificial nutrients, fake meat and very little nutritional value.

The Truth
Unfortunately, it can be nearly impossible to gauge the truth about puppy foods simply from the commercials and advertisements you watch on TV. The truth is that puppies who are fed frequently and get an adequate amount of healthcare and physical exercise are likely to live full, healthy lives. The truth is that no dog food on the market is recognized for making a puppy ill from consuming it, and also the price has little to do with the nutritional value of the particular brand. There could be a study discovered to support each and every type of dog food obtainable for purchase over the others, so none of them can be agreed upon as the best.

The Choice
Your choice for a puppy food is just that - a choice. It could be agonizing and confusing, or it could be easy and satisfactory. Puppies are likely to chow down on just about anything you feed them. Nevertheless, many breeds of dogs cannot tolerate table scraps, certain ingredients or even particular kinds of meat. It's important to talk with your vet about what your puppy breed needs and what's acceptable, and go from there. Believing the hype only causes stress, and your vet ought to be the only one you trust with your new puppy's health and well-being.

What To Do When Your Pet Has Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections

About one in every seven animal is infected with a urinary tract infection serious enough to require treatment, with about half of these infections become a chronic long-term called recurrent urinary tract infections. It is also fair to say that seventy percent of all cases will be women and that most pets that are involve advanced age have diabetes mellitus are prone to bladder stones, a kind of disease of the bladder or is the long-term treatment with corticosteroids.

As you can see, there are many reasons that could make an animal susceptible to recurrent urinary tract infections. It might also be useful to know that urinary tract infections may be acquired by ingestion of bacteria in food or water containing it is transmitted by blood or opportunistic bacteria enter the urethra and its path along the urinary tract the bladder and the worst for the kidneys.

So the first rule to rid your pet with this condition is to ensure that they do not accidentally consume food or water may contain bacteria. No pet owner would intentionally feed their food team with bacteria, but I know with my pets, sometimes they can find, and eating or drinking, rough stuff, including old food and dirty water.

As mentioned earlier, these infections usually will be repeated in older animals was mainly due to a weakened immune system, which is no longer able to eliminate bacteria and combat takes place for the urinary tract. Of these animals special care to ensure that they are not in contact with feces and urine or removed. Pet using the litter box, the threat is even greater, because they are the main breeding ground for bacteria and should be kept very clean and regularly inspected. In addition, a daily exercise routine must be implemented to raise the flag of the immune system function.

Another issue of concern in older animals with arthritis. Pets who need long-term corticosteroid drugs to reduce bone and joint pain are at high risk for recurrent urinary tract infections. If your pet falls into this category are turning to natural arthritis remedies containing glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate might be something worth considering these two substances have been shown to help animals (especially cats) with urinary tract infections appellants.

As mentioned bacteria usually enters through the urethra and makes its way through the urinary tract. To accomplish this feat should be able to adhere to the walls and then to the urinary bladder wall. Certain compounds called ellagitannins help prevent this from happening. Blackberries and raspberries are good sources of cranberries and blueberries with a similar action. Like most animals will not break the door down to get to their hideout BlackBerry adding a little sugar fruit juice to your water regularly is probably the easiest method of shipping and cleaner.

And finally, adding a charge of urinary tract homeopathic specially formulated to relieve the discomfort of the bladder, reducing urine leakage, stimulate immune function, and improve bladder health in general and the tract urine may be an idea to consider. One advantage of these natural remedies is that they can be safely used in conjunction with other treatments (antibiotics) used to contain recurrent urinary tract infections at bay.

Touch Therapy and Massage for Your Pet

Touch therapy for people and animals - a deeper connection

Just like humans, animals touch their young a great deal from birth. We all, all-living creatures, benefit from touch from the time we are born until the time we die.

Linda Tellington-Jones (call TTouch) helped massage become a valuable component of equestrian care, while also contributing and widening the knowledge of hands-on care to a broader animal population. There are 20-plus hand positions combined with various tempos and pressures. Animal massage has grown considerably in the USA since its emergence within the horse community in the 1960s and 1970s. This has helped the massage paths between humans and animals converge and relate to the same value in touch.

Massage therapists, veterinarians, and animal owners are all becoming more aware of how many benefits an animal can get with touch. We need to understand some of the benefits of touch with animals; it can help the animals in so many ways. Its especially important to educate yourself if they are injured, healing or just needing some loving attention.

As you approach an injured or scared animal you must approach slowly with respect, mindfulness and an open palm to the sky, as if you are holding the trust and their heart in your hand. Children have been learning this more in the last decade as animal awareness and education has increased.

With an open palm (as you approach) it is the less dominating way to approach a dog or cat. This is important for children as well as adults to learn, so the animal does not feel threatened.

Tuning into your silent "receiver" (the animal) with your heart is the first connection you can make. Move at a slow approach and gentle pace while silently communicate with your body language, "Can I come toward you?" Be patient, breathe, it may take a bit of time for the trust to build as you move your body closer to them.

Being present and mindful are the two major keys in touch therapy.

When you are giving your pet a massage, start off with this mindfulness. Send the love through your heart and imagine it leaving through your hands to the animal.

Gently place your hands on the animal. Your pet will feel your intention and energy behind your approach and most likely be more open to you. Touch your pet like you would want to be touched if you were sick, injured or just wanting a massage for your health. After 3-5 minutes of gentle touch you will be able to assess what pressure you can apply. Sometimes, just the laying of hands and the energy exchange is all an injured animal can take. Small, slow, light circles of touch over the heart area can be very soothing. Remember, it's the love coming through your hands that is the connection.

If your pet has just come out of surgery their sensations may be more alert. Remember, their bodies are working hard to heal and a still hand may be all they want at first. Think of your hand as the balancing of the activity that is going on internally in their body. Open your heart, look at them with your eyes and talk with them. Even though you may think they cannot understand your words, they do "get it" vibrationally. Trusting that connection through touch therapy and with that communication will deepen your bond with the animal.

The techniques of touch are communicating cellular rejuvenation. On a cellular level it helps reduce pain, fear and that helps reduce inflammation, which is usually the ache in the body as it is going through the healing process. This is the massage therapist's intention behind their touch with humans, as well.

Touching your Pet will be of great benefit on a physical, emotional and Spiritual connection for you and for your pet. Touch is a powerful connection.
